submarine fire, a celebrated sage, son of chyavana and grand son of bhrigu. the sons of kartavirya, with the desire of exterminating the descendants of bhrigu, killed even the children in the womb, fearing the death of her son in the womb, aurva's mother secreted the essence in her thigh, whence arose, in time, this famous sage. beholding him the sons of kartavirya became blind and his wrath burnt into a column of flame that was deposited in the ocean, where it remained hidden with the face of a horse. this aurva was the teacher of king sagara of ayodhya. for different account ep. harivamsha 45
