त्रिशङ्कु

हरिश्चंद्र का पिता, अयोध्या का प्रसिद्ध सूर्यवंशी राजा, वह अपने पुण्यबल से सशरीर स्वर्ग पहुंचना चाहता था किंतु उसके कुलगुरू वशिष्ठ ने उसका साथ न दिया, तब उसने विश्वामित्र की शरण ली, जिसने प्रभावुक यज्ञ करके उसे सशरीर स्वर्ग की ओर पठा दिया, वह स्वर्ग में पहुंचने ही वाला था की इंद्र ने उसे नीचे धक्का दे दिया, वह नीचे गिर रहा था कि विश्वामित्र ने अपने तपोबल से उसे बीच में ही रोक दिया, त्रिशङ्कु आज भी आकाश में लटक रहा है

harishchandra's father, the famous suryavanshi king of ayodhya, wanted to reach heaven with his virtue but was not supported by his vice-chancellor vasishtha, then he took refuge with vishwamitra, who by virtue of the yajnava yajna read him to the physical heaven, that heaven i was about to arrive that indra pushed him down, he was falling down that vishwamitra stopped him in the middle with his tapobal, trishanku is still hanging in the sky.

त्रिशङ्कु — {śaṅku} m.
